Former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan dies at 80

Former United Nations Secretary-General,  Kofi Annan  has died. According to Ghanaian media, he died in Switzerland, this morning August 18th after a brief illness. Mr. Annan was the 7th Secretary-General of the United Nations. Born in Kumasi on April 8, 1938, Annan was UN secretary General from January 1997 to December 2006. e-m According to mailonline this is the moment panicking police officers surround a Ukrainian man who had been left holding a 'live' hand grenade after a fight with his friend. The man's friend, a soldier in the Ukrainian army, had pulled the pin out of the grenade and given it to him before running off.  The pair, whose names have not been released, had fallen out and been fighting in the city of Dnipro in south-eastern Ukarine's Dnipropetrovsk Oblast region. Chilling photos emerge of terrorists laughing as they made bombs before launching attack which killed many

Chilling photos showing ISIS Jihadists laughing as the made the bombs used for last year's deadly Barcelona attack has emerged. The previously unseen pictures were reportedly leaked from the Spanish police investigation into the terror attack that left 16 people dead. In the photos, the terrorists can be seen in a room manufacturing up to 500kg of explosives - known as the Mother of Satan - in the city of Alcanar. Police say the bombs were packed into pillowcases along with homemade grenades and a suicide vest, but, fortunately, they exploded before they could be used. The group was prompted to switch tactics after the explosion in Alcanar on August 16 and instead launched a van attack on Las Ramblas the next day, killing 13 and injuring more than 100. A man was stabbed to death the same day and his car was used to ram a police barricade. The following day, another car attack was carried out in Cambrils, which left one woman dead...

Photos: Surgeons suspended for taking selfies during a surgery

A team of surgical staff got suspended for taking selfies mid-operation and posting them on social media. The group of medical professionals, including the surgeon, anaesthesiologist, two surgical assistants and a surgical nurse, work at the Hospital San Jose de Capilla del Senor in Argentina.   The images were taken during an operation and shared on the social media account of one of the surgeons, Lorena Olguin , who works in the gastroenterology area of the hospital. The photos show the medical team looking at the camera with their surgical masks and gowns on.   One of them shows three of them standing over the patient lying on the operating table, and another with the whole team showing the equipment used in the surgery and bits of gauze with blood on it. The hospital authorities say they have suspended all of those shown in the photo because they consider it irresponsible behaviour. The image was deleted from social media by Olguin, who...

'Nigeria needs N4bn to tackle infectious diseases' – NCDC

The Chief Executive Officer of Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, Chikwe Ihekweazu says that Nigeria needs N4 billion to tackle infectious diseases.   Ihekweazu said this at the launch of Alliance for Epidemic Preparedness and Response (A4EPR) in Lagos. The launch of A4EPR is aimed at getting major stakeholders in the health sector to combat infectious diseases. The alliance is an initiative of the Private Sector Health Alliance of Nigeria and Nigeria Centre for Disease Control. The PHN is in alliance with NCDC and a coalition of private sector which has in its fold: Dangote Group Plc., MTN Nigeria, Total Nigeria, Shell Foundation and Tony Elumelu Foundation. The mission of the group is to seek a way forward in bringing intervention to the risk of infectious diseases, draw attention to the need of innovative partnerships in health emergency.
